Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee Professor Ole Danbolt Mjøs and Director of the Nobel Peace Center Ms. Bente Erichsen visited Bangladesh from 15 – 20 July 2008, in order to attend the opening ceremony of the exhibition. In addition to attending the opening of the exhibition ‘Jobra to Oslo’ they participated in several events. Grameen Bank developed a detailed programme for the two visiting dignitaries in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Dhaka. Among others, the programme included courtesy calls on the Chief Advisor and three other Advisers, addressing the students from various universities and colleges in a public lecture, and a field visit to observe Grameen Bank activities and meet the beneficiaries.
27/08/2008 :: Professor Muhammad Yunus and Mosammat Taslima Begum on behalf of Grameen Bank received the prize on 10 December 2006 in Oslo City Hall in the presence of His Royal Highness King Harald V and Queen Sonja. Among many events marking the achievements of Professor Yunus and the Grameen Bank, the Nobel Peace Center organised an exhibition in Oslo portraying the evolution and growth of Grameen Bank and micro credit as a powerful means for poverty eradication, and the role of Professor Yunus in the process since the foundation of Grameen Bank in 1976. The exhibition “A Fistful of Dollars” was inaugurated at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo by Professor Yunus during the receipt of the award and remained open for vistors for one year (until replaced with the new one produced in connection with Nobel Peace Prize 2007). The exhibition has now been reproduced in Dhaka by Drik Picture Library under the title ‘Jobra to Oslo’ in collaboration with the Grameen Bank and the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Dhaka. There will be two versions of the exhibition. Grameen Bank has dedicated space at its headquarters for the permanent version and the other one will be a travelling exhibition. In addition, to preserve and share the memorable moments with the people of Bangladesh, an exhibition of the ‘Nobel Peace Prize 2006’ medal and other valuable items related to the achievements has been displayed at the Grameen Bank building from 17 July 2008. Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Honourable Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh kindly consented to be the Chief Guest and inaugurated the exhibition at the Grameen Bank headquarters at 09:45 hrs., Thursday, 17 July 2008. Professor Ole Danbolt Mjøs, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee attended the opening as the Guest of Honour. Ms. Bente Erichsen, Director of the Nobel Peace Center was present in the occasion as Special Guest. Ambassador Støfring delivered a speech on the occasion, which you can read here
