Star-studded Nobel weekend in Oslo

The weekend 9- 11 December will be a weekend in the spirit of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo with such events as the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, opening of a new exhibition about this year’s prize winners and the Peace Prize Ceremony.

12/12/2005 :: The highlight will be the Peace Prize Ceremony where this year’s winners, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its Director General Mohamed ElBaradei will be honoured.

They recive the prize for their efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes and to ensure that nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is used in the safest possible way.

Sunday 11 December artists from around the world will gather in Oslo to spread the message of peace and pay tribute to this year’s winners. Actresses Salma Hayek and Julianne Moore host the concert. They were invited to host because their considerable humanitarian efforts embody a spirit og generousity and leadership.

The concert, which is being held in Oslo Spektrum, will include performances from superstars from around the world, Duran Duran, Gladys Knight, Sugababes, Katie Melua, Yo-Yo Ma, Katherine Jenkins, Juanes, Damian Rice, Westlife, Madrugada with Ane Brun, Martin Yates, Ska Cubano and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (Kringkastingsorkesteret).

A new photo exhibit, Make Power – Not War, will open 11 December at the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo. The exhibit will be about this year’s winners of the Peace Prize, and will be open through to 13 April 2006. Since the opening of the Peace Centre in June 2005, 50 000 people have visited the Centre.  The Centre presents the laureates, arranges exhibitions, and tells the story of Alfred Nobel and all the Nobel Peace Prize winners.
