Norwegian Gold in the Barents Sea

Due to its vast natural resources, the importance of the High North stretches far beyond Norway’s borders. A recent article in Newsweek International highlights the strategic importance of Norway and the High North as a future European gas province.

14/01/2007 :: Norway is already a major global energy actor. It is the world’s third largest exporter of oil and gas, and the second largest exporter of gas to Europe. Today the High North is the strategic priority area that is of greatest importance to Norway.

According to Newsweek International’s article “Norwegian Gold”, the Barents Sea could  become a European gas province, and the development of the High North will strengthen Norway’s geopolitical role.
