Norway to cooperate with Bill Gates on biological diversity

29/04/2007 :: Norway is to cooperate with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on an initiative to rescue 95% of the biological diversity of the world’s food crops. In Norway, the construction of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault is already under way. This will be used to store material from national and international gene banks. + More

Seeds of the world to be conserved on Svalbard

The Norwegian government will build a global vault for seeds on Svalbard. Seeds from the entire world will be put into frozen storage in the vault so that crop diversity can be conserved for the future, and Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg marked the start of the building process on 19 June. + More

Cooperation between Arctic nations on climate change

23/06/2008 :: On 28 May, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre met representatives of the four other nations bordering the Arctic Ocean to discuss challenges in the High North, including those resulting from climate change. The conference culminated in a joint declaration by the five countries. + More
