Rural electrifcation was until recently an important area for Norwegian support. At present, the main support goes to projects for small-scale enterprises and petroleum sector regulatory institutions. The three main projects are:
South Asia Enterprise Development Facility. Norwegian co-financing with the International Finance Corporation. Funding: 2002-2008, 50 mill. NOK. Core area: Business development services and support to small and medium scale enterprises.
Gas Development Project, co-financing with the Government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank. Funding: 2006-2010, 35 million NOK. Core area: To strengthen the regulatory institutions of the petroleum sector, with emphasis on natural gas.
Small Enterprises Development Project. In co-operation with RAKUB Bank. Core area: Employment creation thorugh credit and technical assistance to small-scale entrepreneurs in the Rajshahi Division. Funding: 2002-2008, 38 mill. NOK.
