Empowering Working Women in Bangladesh

28/05/2008 :: Karmojibi Nari has successfully evolved from a small initiative in the nineties into an important change agent working to promote women workers’ rights in Bangladesh. It demands systematic change both from the Government and from the private business companies. Working closely with the trade unions without being a member itself allows Karmojibi Nari to get access where the trade unions are barred from working, for instance in the export processing zones. Karmojibi Nari also works to increase the female representation in the trade unions and to ensure implementation of the ratified ILO-convention. + More

RDRS Bangladesh - an implementing development partner

27/05/2008 :: Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Service Bangladesh (RDRS Bangladesh) works with many partners, both national and international. Their mission is to help the rural poor and their organisations to establish and claim their rights, to build their capacity and confidence, and to promote good governance and improved access to opportunities, resources and services. The Norwegian Church Aid and the Strømme Foundation are currently co-operating with RDRS. + More

Water purification for Sidr victims

04/02/2008 :: One of the consequences of the Cyclone Sidr was severely damaged water and sanitation systems. The lack of pure water supply can easily lead to water borne diseases like diarrhea, dysentery, fever and skin diseases. The World Health Organization Representative and the Norwegian Ambassador in Bangladesh recently visited new Norwegian sponsored water purification plants which will help people in some of the worst affected areas. + More

Equality Needs Equal Opportunity

24/01/2008 :: Since the early '90s, the Norwegian Embassy has supported Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP), one of the most prominent women's NGOs in the country. Under the heading "Equality Needs Equal Opportunity", BMP recently held its 11th National Conference inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed as Chief Guest, and the Norwegian Ambassador H. Norway Pledges USD 3.3 Million in Cyclone Aid

25/11/2007 :: The Government of Norway in a decision on the 19th November decided to make immideately available USD 3.3 million in relief funds for victims of the cyclone "Sidr". His Majesty King Harald V of Norway sends his condolences to the Hon'ble President Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed and the people of Bangladesh following the disaster. + More
