Norway has supported education in Bangladesh for many years. At present, education support receives around half of the assistance managed by the embassy.
School enrolment has increased substantially in recent years. The main challenge now, as stated by the Government of Bangladesh, is to increase the quality of education.
The main projects supported by Norway are carried out by the Government of Bangladesh and the NGO BRAC:
Primary Education Development Programme II (PEDP-II) is a co-operation between the Government of Bangladesh and several donors including Norway. Funding: 2004-2009, 349 million NOK.
Basic Education Programme (BEP) is a co-operation between BRAC and several donors including Norway. Funding: 2004-2009. 100 million NOK.
