06/09/2005 :: The high prices of salmon to the EU have led to an increase in value on exports of salmon in July. The total exports of salmon were just over 125 million Euro (1 billion NOK), an increase of 37 percent from last year. France was the largest export market for fresh salmon, with an increase of 34 percent to 18 million Euro (144 million NOK), followed by Denmark, Great Britain, Poland and Spain. Exports of frozen herrings fillets increased by 190 percent in July. The increase is greatest to Russia by 72 percent.

Norway is one of the top three seafood-exporting nations worldwide. Norwegian seafood includes wild fish and shellfish caught in the Norwegian and Barents Seas as well as farmed fish raised in the hundreds of fish farms established in the country’s coastal waters. Prized for its taste and nutritional value, fresh, frozen or processed seafood from Norway is exported to consumers in some 150 different countries.
