I regret the violence and disruption that is ongoing in the country. I am shocked and saddened by the loss of lives, and injuries suffered. This includes the attack against former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Reaz Rahman on 13 January. I wish him and all the injured a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with them and with the families of the deceased.
All must refrain from acts of violence, exercise restraint, and respect the rule of law. I am concerned about the shrinking democratic space, and encourage dialogue between the stakeholders to end violence, while safeguarding democratic values. Peace and stability must be upheld, while respecting freedom of assembly, movement and speech.
