Visit to Bangladesh by Norwegian State Secretary for International Development, Mr.Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen.

Norway`s State Secretary for International Development, Mr. Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, will visit Bangladesh from Saturday April 18th to Tuesday April 21st. The thematic focus for the visit is climate change/mitigation/adaptation, women and gender and labour market issues. Norway has recently issued a White Paper on the Prevention of Humanitarian Disasters. Bangladesh, Vietnam, China and Cuba are suggested countries for initial cooperation in this area.

Norway and Bangladesh enjoys a long standing history as development partners. This visit will provide opportunities for reviewing some of the results in the field as well as set the course for the future bilateral relations between the two countries.

During his stay in Bangladesh the State Secretary will have talks with Ministers and other officials, as well as NGOs and business representatives. The State Secretary will also undertake a field trip to the Barisal region. Hosted by BRAC he will visit Patharghata and see activities related to the Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Programme  (WASH) and Disaster, Environment & Climate Change Programme (DECC).

In Barisal city the delegation will get a first hand impression of activities carried out by the women`s organisation Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP), as well as visiting UCEP (Underprivileged Children`s Educational Project) Technical School for working children.
