The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka and Manushur Jonno Foundation (MJF) recently signed a contract for supporting human rights and good governance activities in Bangladesh. MJF will receive 60 million NOK (approximately 63 crore Taka) over a period of three years. The purpose of the cooperation contract is that the poor and vulnerable people, particularly women and children have access to measurable better quality services and enjoy improved security.
The contract was signed by Ambassador Ingebjørg Støfring and Chairperson of the governing board of MJF Sayd Manzur Elahi. The signing ceremony took place at the Norwegian Embassy on 22 June. Human rights and good governance are among the main areas for Norwegian development cooperation with Bangladesh. MJF has, with its solid set up and program, proved to be capable to manage significant donors’ funds in a transparent and efficient manner. The Embassy believes that the MJF approach has been creating a strong impact on livelihood, human rights and governance issues. The project is reaching the poorest and most marginalized people of Bangladesh. MJF is providing capacity building support to 120 partner NGOs, helping them to take active part to contribute in the major national program, such as the PRSP and the MDGs.
Sayd Manzur Elahi of MJF said the governing board takes its stewardship role seriously and assured that complete trust and accountability will be maintained in MJF. Shaheen Anam, executive director added that the support received will benefit the poorest and improve the human rights and governance in Bangladesh.
