On June 2nd 2010 Norway signed the Bangladesh Joint Cooperation Strategy with the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) and 17 other Development Partners (DPs); Asian Development Bank, Australia, Canada, Denmark, European Union, Germany, Islamic Development Bank, Japan, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United Nations, United States and World Bank.
The strategy represents the mutual commitment of GOB and DP to develop a new, more effective way of working together. The JCS is a major step forward in the partnership between GOB and its DPs and will intensify collaboration to improve aid delivery and thereby the prospects for sustained growth and poverty reduction. The JCS shows that GOB and its DPs are firmly committed to the principles of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Accra Agenda for Action (2008). The overall objective of the JCS is to improve the way GOB and DPs work together in order to make aid more effective in Bangladesh. The JCS is expected to result in better harmonized and streamlined programmes supporting Bangladesh’s development plans and strategies by providing a common platform for inclusive partnership between all development actors. In this respect, the main purpose of the JCS is to institutionalize a mechanism by which GOB and its DPs hold each other accountable for making concrete and measurable progress towards greater aid effectiveness.
