09/11/2009 // Trafficking is a transnational problem requiring effective coordination and cooperation among the stakeholders including different ministries and government agencies, said Ambassador Ingebjørg Støfring while attending the launching ceremony of a video drama ‘Bon Pora Horini’ (The Dispossessed Entity) as the special guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Agargaon in Dhaka

Trafficking in persons is a serious human rights violation and one of the worst forms of criminal offense in any society. Despite strict laws on punishment for such a crime, the government has not been able to eliminate trafficking entirely. A social movement needs to be created to combat human trafficking, said the speakers at the function.

The film Bon Pora Horini intends to create social awareness by screening it in villages and village markets, in areas in Bangladesh that are prone to cross border trafficking, said IOM Regional Representative for South Asia Ms. Rabab Fatima in her welcome address. IOM produced the drama under Prevention and Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking in Bangladesh (PPVHT-B) Project funded by the governments of Norway and Denmark. Mr. Md Ghulam Hussain, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs also attended the ceremony.

A very prominent and popular singer and a Member of the Bangladesh Parliament, Ms. Momtaj Begum, plays the key role in Bon Pora Horini, which is based on real life events. The drama Bon Pora Horini is centered on the stigmatization of the victims of trafficking and their rehabilitation, and calls every strata of the society to unite against human trafficking.
