Bangladesh Music Week 2015 was a two-day long music conference, workshop and festival held on November 6 and 7 2015 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka. Organized under the aegis of Norway-Bangladesh Music Cooperation, the aim is to establish a sustainable regional network of cultural activists and resource persons, so they could share experiences, build capacity and work together more. The Royal Norwegian Embassy supported this venture in partnership with LiveSquare and Concert Norway. Bangladesh Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also supported the initiative.
The Norway-Bangladesh Music Cooperation started in 2011, with the bold objective to promote cross-cultural understanding and strengthen dialogue between people through various musical and cultural activities. Norway has been a strong player in the region for creating a solid network of music activists. Including Bangladesh in the circle led to successful exchanges and collaboration between many professionals and artists, workshops and capacity building initiatives that connect Norway, Bangladesh and South Asia.
On November 6, between 4pm to 9pm, everyone were welcome to the Shongitashala Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Illustrious musical bands including Shironamhin, Chirkutt, Lalon, Minar, Powesurge, the Brotherhood project and Arshinagar performed on stage, while presentations and performances with rare musical instruments by BITA (Bangladesh Institute of Theatre Arts), the Srilankan trio Shakhti, Triratna, among others, also took place.
On the same day, a light Engineering Masterclass was held at the Shilpakala Academy, conducted by the specialist light engineer Mr. Naveen Deshpande, Director and Founder of Mixtape and Ground Kontrolle, India.
The Opening Ceremony of Bangladesh Music Week took place on November 6, 2015 at 10 am at the Shongitashala Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The occasion was graced by Mr. Asaduzzaman Noor, the Honorable Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, as the chief guest and Her Excellency Ms. Merete Lundemo, Ambassador of Norway, as the special guest. Eminent music professionals from many countries were present at Dhaka to attend the conference and experience the cultural exchange.
