The Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony in Oslo on 10 December

Each year in December the Nobel Peace Prize is presented by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate 2004, Wangari Maathai, will receive the award at Oslo City Hall on 10 December. The Nobel Days in Oslo end with the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, where a number of world-famous artists will perform.

Wangari Maathai was awarded the Peace Prize “for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace”, as the Nobel Committee said in its announcement of the award. At the award ceremony the winner is presented with a gold medal, a diploma and SEK 10 million.

A prestigious prize
The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded since 1901 and holds a unique position among peace prizes. In addition to its established reputation and financial value it enjoys the same high international prestige as all the Nobel prizes.

Star-packed Nobel Peace Prize Concert
On Sunday 11 December artists from all over the world will gather at Oslo Spectrum to help spread the message of peace and pay tribute to this year’s Peace Prize Laureate, Wangari Maathai. The concert will be hosted by Tom Cruise and Oprah Winfrey, and Diana Krall, Andrea Bocelli and Sondre Lerche will be among the artists.
